Biological dentistry is dentistry done with whole body health in mind. After all, conditions in the mouth can have a big impact on the body, and systemic health can impact the health of your teeth and gums. In fact, up to 90% of all illness may have an oral factor involved.
Biological dentistry takes the very best that modern, clinical dentistry has to offer and enhances its success with supportive modes of healing, including nutrition, Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbal medicine, homeopathy, chiropractic, and more.
Applied to the teeth, fluoride may help slow the rate of decay. It can also harm other parts of the body, including the brain. This is why we don’t use it in our office, favoring better preventive steps such as improved nutrition.
Toxicity is also why we never place “silver” fillings in our office, as they actually contain about 50% mercury - one of the most toxic elements on Earth. And when it comes time to remove them, we follow stringent safety guidelines - the SMART protocol - to minimize your exposure and ours to this potent neurotoxin.
When restoring or replacing teeth, we use materials that your body will not be reactive to - largely composite resins, ceramic, and, in the case of implants, titanium. The composites we use are fluoride-free and contain no BPA or related compounds.
If you have a history of sensitivities, we can order serum compatibility testing to determine which specific materials are safest to use.
